Services for Scott Cole

West Potomac lost one of our own over the Holidays.  Scott Cole was a great member and supporter of the club. The memorial service is this Saturday in North Carolina. There will be another memorial in Northern Virginia on the 24th, which we will be making a team event.

Polar Bear Plunge:

We’ve entered a side into the Polar Bear plunge for each of the last few years. This is a great event to  fulfill the two activities we enjoy most outside of playing rugby: charity and drinking beer. Bill Evans is organizing the team, and I encourage you to participate. If you can’t participate please make a donation to the West Pot Shivering Beavers!

You can join the team or donate here:

Awards Banquet

We’re finalizing the date and venue for the awards banquet. More info will come by Sunday (1/11).  Please start thinking about silent auction items!

Coach & Player Development Workshops

There are a couple Rugby Development workshops coming up. January 17th is a clinic focusing on teaching touch and flag rugby for youth players. Coach Terry is starting a youth club at his school in SE. He has asked if we can supply coaches to help get it started. If you are interested, please e-mail me (kylekozatgmaildotcom  (kylekozatgmaildotcom)  ) and plan on attending this clinic on Jan 17th from 8:30am-5:00pm location TBD.

The Capital Rugby Union is hosting a clinic February 27th-March 1st. They’ll have players from the USA and England national teams going over many facets of the game. It’s free to all West Pot players and coaches.

West Potomac Rugby with Ryan Bravo Hopkins and Tracy Denholm.

West Potomac Rugby played an excellent game against the Baltimore Chesapeake RFC this past Saturday, losing 22-19. Slippery conditions led to a lot of dropped passes, but the West Pot pack played their best game of the year - dominating the scrum all afternoon, including a penalty try earned after driving the scrum into the tryzone from the 5m line.

This week, West Pot's Man of the Match jacket was earned by lock Tracy Denholm, and West Pot Player of the week went to flank Ryan Hopkins. Well earned, gents!

This weekend West Potomac RFC travels on an international goodwill mission, exporting much-needed bravado and freedom to our neighbors to the north, as the club takes part in the Monty Head Tournament of Champions in Toronto, Canada.
