ABOUT US
Founded in 1963, West Potomac RFC is the 2nd oldest active rugby club in the Washington, D.C. region fielding a Division III men’s team. The club attracts many players with and without rugby playing experience who enjoy the club’s close-knit social fellowship and competitive level of play.
A Club for Everyone
West Pot fields a Division III men’s side, a 7’s team in Summer, as well as a Masters (35 and older) side. We have the willingness to train those new to rugby while also providing a pathway for players to compete in higher level competitions. We strive to continue our sport’s finest social traditions including domestic and international tours, themed events, and of course singing rugby songs. We also pride ourselves on being an inclusive club who welcomes all players regardless of rugby experience, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or income. The club is registered with the national governing rugby body, USA Rugby, and competes in the Capital Rugby Union (CGU), which includes clubs in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland.
CLUB OPPORTUNITIES
WestPot players have routinely been selected for regional select sides, invitational touring sides, and even professional opportunities. Over the years West Pot has toured internationally in Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, Wales, Netherlands, Taiwan, and France. International tours are an important tradition of amateur and professional rugby teams alike, as they give players the opportunity to bond with teammates and test themselves against better teams and regional styles of play.
IN THE COMMUNITY
West Potomac RFC is more than just a rugby club. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that works tirelessly to promote the sport and strengthen the organization’s ties to the community. West Pot has raised tens of thousands of dollars for charity over the years, including the Special Olympics, the Red Cross, and the Children’s Tumor Foundation, and participates in several philanthropic activities every year.
