Excedi Universum Award

Paul G.The West Potomac RFC motto is Excedi Universum, “Everything in Excess.”  We have established a new award to honor those players who have exemplified this during their careers with the club. The award recognizes:

1 – Longevity in providing on the field contributions as a Young Boy and/or Old Boy in accordance with the West Potomac Values; 2 – Length of service to the club in elected positions to include Officer, Captain and/or Coaching roles; and, 3 – Enhancing and growing the sense of community both within the Club as well as the greater Washington, D.C. region.983686_10209066355923879_1609992178754208057_n

The initial awardee has been a Member since the Spring of 1974 (42 years); joined when it was still SAIS Rugby; continues to participate in our Young Boy and Old Boy sides; has served as an officer continuously since the mid-1990s; provides financial support to the team beyond dues; managed multiple fundraising efforts; and, with his family has hosted the oldest continual team social event.

Paul and BeefaThe story of Paul G. and West Potomac Rugby cannot be told without his wife of 42 years – Lynne.  He joined three months after their wedding – and together helped make us a rugby family.

The Excedi Universum Award has been established as the highest honor that WPRFC can award to any team member – and has been nicknamed “The Gessner” in their honor.  In addition, the Excedi Universum Fund has been established to recognize their contributions and help improve team operations.

The West Potomac Values

Strength on the field.
Courage in the scrum.
Determination in the face of adversity.
Peace among brothers.
Sincerity in word and deed.
Loyalty to the club.
Beer!
Perseverance in getting beer.

This week, West Pot's Man of the Match jacket was earned by lock Tracy Denholm, and West Pot Player of the week went to flank Ryan Hopkins. Well earned, gents!
